The new square, as a pilot project for the development of the master plan, aims to rehabilitate the image of the entire district and create a new identity. The purpose of the project is to create a sense of collective identity (a new strong community) by incorporating structures and elements of urban furniture, immediately recognisable, favouring also the aesthetic and evocative aspects, and capable to enhance the beauty of the new square.
To foster identity, new icons and landmarks are designed in strategic points of the plot. All these elements of urban regeneration will become a source of pride for the people and trigger among them a sense of responsibility and protection of their collective public space, enhancing a feeling of unity, sharing and belonging. The preferred use of natural materials such as local stone, water and vegetation inside the square contributes to convey a harmonious and evocative appearance to the public space, reinterpreting the beauty of the northern landscape in an urban alphabet.

The Library of Babel
The garden is ispired by Jorge Luis Borges story 'La biblioteca de Babel' (1941). The library contains all the books ever written, or that might ever be written, in their coherent or erroneous versions.e garden looks like a repetition of interlocked exagonal rooms that evoke the undened labyrinth of the story. Each room reveals a nature concealed behind semitrasparent textile walls. e nature has the same role as the sequences of letters and phrases that follow each other randomly in the Borges library. is caotic order contains the essence of every potential books (or garden). The experience of visitors is comparable with the condition of the charachters in the Babel library: a perpetual research of understanding knowledges, and peraphs the same sense of life. e garden could be perceived as a space of reexion to understand the human condition. Visitors can pass through sequences of rooms that correspond to dierents sequences of intense emotions. By creating a path visitors drift away from the experience of the labyrinth and start observing nature, that reveals dierents responses to everyone.
