The new square, as a pilot project for the development of the master plan, aims to rehabilitate the image of the entire district and create a new identity. The purpose of the project is to create a sense of collective identity (a new strong community) by incorporating structures and elements of urban furniture, immediately recognisable, favouring also the aesthetic and evocative aspects, and capable to enhance the beauty of the new square.
To foster identity, new icons and landmarks are designed in strategic points of the plot. All these elements of urban regeneration will become a source of pride for the people and trigger among them a sense of responsibility and protection of their collective public space, enhancing a feeling of unity, sharing and belonging. The preferred use of natural materials such as local stone, water and vegetation inside the square contributes to convey a harmonious and evocative appearance to the public space, reinterpreting the beauty of the northern landscape in an urban alphabet.

The existing three-story building is a mid-nineteen century brick house, and requires an energetic, structural and functional requalification. The building will be demolished and rebuilt to optimize costs and benefits. The project area is in a maritime context, near Rimini waterfront promenade.
The mission is to build an anti-seismic three-story building, with a simple and linear aestethic, an energy-efficient skin to obtain low consumption and low maintenance. The choice of materials is prompted by the climate condition of the maritime context.
A new program of uses defines two residential units with common services (laundry, boiler room and garages) at the ground floor. There will be different materials respecting the solar exposition of the building. We designed details to control thermal bridging, and to maximize the skin efficiency in order to reduce thermal needs.
There will be a system to reuse the rain water, photovoltaic panels to generate electrical power for the heating system, that works with radiant floor panels. In order to regulate sun energy supplies, a home automation system controls rolling shutter with insulated counterframes.
